| Commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art
in Sydney, the brief was to re-examine the role of the caravan
in contemporary Australian culture. |
| |
| Like a snail, the caravan wraps over the car,
reducing the overall length and achieving small turning circles.
The smooth gently curved exterior creates an aerodynamic shape,
greatly reducing the drag coefficient. There is complete unity
between the inside and outside. No attempt is made to imitate
the home, but rather to create a totally new, minimal high performance
environment. Solar cells mounted on the curved roof generate
enough electricity to service the caravan. Entry into the caravan
is through a curved glazed hinged panel which forms a canopy
over a temporary terrace when in the open position. |
